Lawyers attired in officious, stern-looking black coats give the impression that they spend their lives poring over thick books on law looking for various legal intricacies and arguing cases in courts. But a programme held under the auspices of the cultural committee of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) , ‘Mera Bhi Naam Hoga’ – or “I will also make a name for myself’ revealed a completely different aspect when these practitioners of law showed displayed their artistic talents.

The programme started with Chief justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi inaugurating the event by lighting a lamp. Senior member of SCBA executive committee Pradeep Rai was also present at the occasion.

The CJI appreciated the SCBA’s cultural committee effort for organising the programme.

Mera Bhi Naam Hoga’ is like talent hunt held by SCBA Cultural Committee to identify hidden talents among the practitioners of law. It provided an opportunity to showcase dancing and singing talents of participants.

Eminent senior advocates of the country were felicitated by senior members of the SCBA executive committee. Notable among them are Fali S Nariman, Soli Sorabji, Harish Salve, HS Phoolka, KK Venugopal, Indira Jaisingh, PH Parekh and K Parasaran.

A cultural programme without an element of humour seems incomplete. This was provided by the well-known poet Surendra Sharma, renowned for his satirical, humorous pieces and style of narration.

The event saw members of SCBA Cultural Committee and other participants present impressive display of dance and singing talent, earning praise of all present.

The winners of the ‘Mera Bhi Naam Hoga’ contest will be announced at the conclusion of the programme – and an we shall duly report it for you.
