A 35 year old man ended his life on Thursday, August 22, after he had a fight with his wife over visiting her house on Janmashtami.
The man identified as Umesh Sen was a resident of Jehangirabad, Bhopal. He hanged himself with the ceiling and while doing so, he made a WhatsApp video call to his wife and showed her the whole act.
The police said, Umesh killed himself because his wife, Arti insisted on visiting her parents during Janmanshtami. She was desperate to go to her parents house on the occasion of Rakshabandhan but could not go, so she made another effort. Umesh took her and their two children to his wife’s house at Berasia on Thursday. The spat started as soon as they reached and thus he did not stay there for long and returned back to his house the same evening with his seven year old son.
At around 12:40 in the night he made a video call to his wife and hinted that he was going to kill himself. Before Arti could react, he hung himself. In a hurry, Arti called Umesh’s younger brother, Raju, who was also their neighbour. But before he could open the door, Umesh had already died. He rushed Umesh to the Hamidia hospital where he was declared dead.
The body was then sent for post mortem and a case was registered under section 174 of The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for further investigation.
Umesh was a chaat vendor at Roshanpura and for a very long time there were tensions going on in the family because of the financial crisis.
