A naxal couple surrendered before Telangana police on Tuesday (September 3) carrying a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh each on their heads. The Maoist couple gave up their arms before Bhadradri Kothagudem police.
The man was identified as Sodi Narasimha Rao, a 30-year-old, along with his wife Podium Sanni.
“Sodi Narasimha Rao, active as Area Committee Member (ACM) in Indravelli Khanapur of Mangi area in Maoist party and his wife Podium Sanni, a 25-year-old, active as ACM of Korkatapadu area have surrendered before Bhadradri Kothagudem police,” Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt said in a press conference.
According to police, Rao joined the Maoist party in 2007 and was promoted as Khanpur-Mangi Area Committee secretary in 2017. He took part in several exchanges of fire between Maoists and police at various places including Rangapur in Warangal in 2015. His wife Sanni also joined the Maoist party in 2013.
The SP said that both ultras surrendered as they desired to live a normal life. As per the surrender policy, the duo was handed over cash reward as immediate relief.
The SP further said that Maoist have surrendered on a large scale recently. Apart from the couple, six more Naxalites have surrendered before the DIG CRPF and SP on Tuesday. Female Naxalites involving in many major incidents also surrendered including Vetti Pali daughter Ganga resident Kistaram and Komaram Sammi son Ramakrishna resident Kistaram, a member of the dreaded battalion number one of the Naxalites. Both were part of the backup team overseeing farming and farming operations in the Naxalite organization.
