Attends PM’s dinner to farewell President Mukherjee
After days of tension in the grand-alliance over the corruption charges against Bihar’s Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, a one-on-one meeting transpired between CM Nitish Kumar and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday in the capital. Nitish Kumar has reportedly discussed the present political scenario in the state.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has urged Rahul Gandhi to take a stand on corruption charges against Lalu’s son and get him step down. The decision on Tejashwi is likely to come next week, prior to the opposition meeting before Bihar assembly commences on July 28.
The 40-minute long meeting was held during Nitish Delhi visit on Saturday who was ere to attend a farewell dinner for the outgoing President Pranab Mukkherjee. The dinner was hosted by PM Narendra Modi.
Lalu Yadav continues to support his son Tejashwi stressing that he won’t exit the government just because CBI has named him in a corruption case. Lalu insists that his son was framed at the instance of the BJP led central government.
While, Nitish is of the view that Tejashwi’s continuation in office would not be in the larger interest of alliance and will provide leverage to the opposition for running smear campaign against the state government.
There was no immediate confirmation on the Rahul’s response. However he has tasked a senior party leader to talk to Lalu Yadav on the issue.
In a recent television interview Lalu Yadav has reiterated that Tejashwi won’t quit but if the government’s future depends on it, he could ensure his son’s exit.
