Over Rs.16 lakh cash, around 4 kg of heroin and 400 live cartridges recovered from the cop’s house
Punjab Police apprehended a senior police official Inderjit Singh on Monday after a large haul of narcotics, arms and cash were seized from his home yesterday.
Singh, who was famous as a ‘drug recovery specialist’ was immediately taken into custody by Punjab police’s Special Task Force (STF).
According to reports, over ₹16 lakh cash, around 4 kg of heroin, an Italian-make pistol, 3 kg of smack, an AK 47 rifle and around 400 live cartridges including those of AK 47s were recovered from his residence at Jalandhar police lines.
Moreover, Special Task Force Chief Harpreet Sidhu said, Inderjit was caught after the task force got a credible lead from a source in Tarn Taran. “His service record showed a sudden spurt in contraband seizures wherever he was posted,” he said.
“We analysed thirteen cases of recovery by him when he was posted as Crime Investigation Agency in-charge in Taran Taran for fourteen months. It was found that despite huge recovery — as high as 19 lakh heroin in one case — all accused were freed by the court,” Sidhu added.
In order to curb the menace, the Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh had appointed a Special Task Force after coming to power in March.
