A five-year old girl of a private school was allegedly sexually assaulted by a sweeper inside the school premises in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash II area.
The accused identified as Picha Mithu, 45 year, was a resident of Sudhar camp, Kalkaji, the police confirmed. According to the police the matter came to light on August 8 when the minor’s mother alleged that her daughter was sexually assuaulted by the sweeper in the school’s washroom. When the girl came back from the school she was unable to narrate the whole incident but complained about pain in her abdomen. The parents understood and called the PCR and a complaint was lodged at Chittranjan Park police station.
The case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the minor was sent to Judicial custody.
The medical reports of the victim at The All India Institute of Medical Sciences confirmed that the minor was sexually assaulted. The girl identified the accused, who’s been working in that school for the past 20 years and the police took no time in arresting him.
Statements of the victim and her mother have been recorded. CCTV footage and digital recorder have also been seized, they said.
During interrogation, the man at first denied that he had committed the crime, but later confessed to assaulting the child. He confessed that when he entered the toilet to help the girl with her clothes, he sexually assaulted her. The police is yet to find out if this has happened with other children too. Some guardians had complained to the school and their statements have been recorded too.
Meanwhile the school principal assured all the parents that all male cleaners would be replaced with women and CCTVs would be installed to monitor them.
