AICC president will be absent as poll results come in
A news channel reports that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has flown out of the country to receive treatment/medical tests. No official word is available on this, though.
The report says that Mrs Gandhi left the country on March 7 and is expected back on March 12, which means that she will be missing while the results of the polls come out on March 11.
As usual, her son Rahul Gandhi, vice-president of the party, will be taking all the decision in her absence. It is going to be a tough situation for Rahul, if exit polls are to be believed, with the BJP expected to garner 185 seats against a lot many pre-poll predictions.
The Congress, which is in alliance with the Samajwadi Party in UP, is expected to put up 120 seats in total. In the alliance the Congress had managed to get 100 tickets.
The report says that Mrs Gandhi held a meeting with top functionaries of the party before she left and decided on the party’s future action.
Mrs Gandhi had been on a treatment leave earlier too. The exact nature of her illness has not been disclosed.
