Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama early today (Saturday, May 18) morning.
The encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces around 2:10 am in Pulwama’s Panzam. Troops of the Central Reserve Police Force, Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group were involved in the encounter.
Initially, the gun battle between troops of 130 Battalion CRPF, 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) and terrorists broke out at around 2 am in the morning. Then a body of the terrorist has recovered during the post-encounter search of the area when the firing stopped for some time.
As per sources, one of the militants killed in the encounter has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar of the Hizbul Mujahideen.
Another encounter broke out at Dehruna village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
A joint team of the Army, including 19 RR and SOG, cordoned off Dehruna area of Anathnag following information about presence of militants in the area, sources told India Today. As the joint team intensified search operation, hiding militants opened fire leading to an encounter.
As per last reports, the encounter was still on. Two to three militants are believed to be trapped, sources added.
Internet services had been snapped in both Awantipora in Pulwama district and Dehruna in South Kashmir.
In south Kashmir’s Anantnag, another encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces.
On Thursday, two army soldiers and two civilians were killed and give terrorists shot dead in two separate encounters in Pulwama and Shopian. Two more soldiers and a civilian were injured.
