An Army soldier has been killed and three others have been injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K’s Rajouri district today (Monday, March 18).

Pakistani forces resorted to firing from small arms and shelling mortars in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district.

“A soldier was martyred and three others were injured in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Kerry battal area of Akhnoor this morning,” said an Army official.

Earlier, defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand had said that at around 5:30 am, Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with mortars and firing of small arms along Loc in Sunderbani sector.

The ceasefire violation in Jammu and Kashmir came after Pakistan violated ceasefire on Sunday evening.

The spokesman said there was no report of any casualty on the Indian side in the cross-border firing which was still continuing when last reports were received.

He said Indian Army retaliated effectively and the firing stopped at 07:15 am.

Earlier, on 6:30 pm on Sunday Pakistani troops violated ceasefire triggering a strong response from the Indian Army. This came after Pakistan on Wednesday violated ceasefire in Poonch sector of the state.

Earlier, Pakistani Rangers also initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation in Chakkan da Bagh crossing point where the Line of Control trade centre is located.
