Seven civilians sustained pellet injuries during clashes
Two soldiers have been killed and three others, including a captain, have been injured in an encounter with terrorists in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, on Sunday. Police says that a body, believed to be of a terrorist, has also been found lying in the orchards.
Heavy shelling and fires were exchanged between security forces and terrorists, who were tucked away in Awneera village of Shopian in South Kashmir. Earlier security forces along with Rashtriya Rifles, state police and the CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on a tip of presence of terrorists in the area.
However, 2-3 terrorists are still holed up inside the house. “Two security personnel martyred, while three injured. One terrorist eliminated,” J&K DGP SP Vaid was quoted as saying.
Operational commander of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Yasin Itoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi is believed to be among the holed up terrorists.
According to reports, security forces have blasted four houses so far during the operation in Zainapora area of Awneera which stared in the wee hours of Sunday. Earlier, the youth clashed with the security forces in Awneera to break the cordon around the village on Saturday.
Reportedly, seven civilians had sustained pellet injuries during the clashes.
In a separate incident in North Kashmir’s Bandipora, two policemen were injured Sunday after militants opened fire on a search party.
The forces were conducting a cordon and search operation at Wahab Parray Mohalla in Bandipora’s Hajin after receiving intelligence input about the presence of holed up militants, a police official said. However, militants escaped in the shadow of stone pelting.
