AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday (April 11) hit out at Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for his remarks about India’s general elections, saying he has no right to interfere in India’s electoral process.

In an interaction with foreign journalists in Islamabad on Wednesday, Khan said he believed there may be a better chance of peace talks with India and settling the Kashmir issue if Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s BJP wins the general election.

“… I have condemned the statement of Imran Khan. He has no right whatsoever to interfere in the electoral process of a great country like India,” Owaisi said.

The AIMIM leader, who is seeking re-election from Hyderabad, was speaking after casting his vote at a polling booth under the Chevella parliamentary constituency.

Responding to a question on Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao receiving a notice from the Election Commission for allegedly making controversial remarks, Owaisi said he was ‘surprised’ that PM Modi did not get one.

Apart from Owaisi, leaders from Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), J&K politicians Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti and other anti-BJP parties raised voice against Imran interfering in Indian politics and slammed Bharatiya Janata Party over the same.

“Pakistan has officially allied with Modi! A vote for Modi is a vote for Pakistan,” tweeted Congress spokesperson Randeep Sing Surjewala. “Modi-ji, first Nawaz Sharif, now Imran Khan is your friend. The secret is out,” he added.

“Why does Pakistan want Modi-ji to win? PM Modi, please tell the nation how deep your relationship is with Pakitan? All Indians should know that if PM Modi wins then crackers will be burst in Pakistan,” tweeted Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

“Pakistan mein macha shor, Narendra Modi once more (There’s clamour in Pakistan for a second term for Narendra Modi)”, Kejriwal said in another tweet.

Former J&K CM and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti slammed BJP over Imran’s remark and said, “Bhakts scratching their heads & at wit ends wondering if they should praise Imran Khan or not.”
