The tragic death of over 60 ailing children in Gorakhpur hospital due to alleged shortage of oxygen saw a war on social media between the BJP and Yogi government on one side and opposition and others on another.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, known to tweet on tragedies in distant lands, remained silent over the incident. This provoked comments and criticism. Finally, response came from his office stating PM’s actions over the incident. However, a personal message is still awaited.

CM Yogi Adityanath also refrained from commenting on the incident through social media even as opposition demanded his resignation on moral grounds. Speaking at an event in Allahabad on Saturday, Adityanath did mentioned the Gorakhpur incident, saying that children have been dying of encephalitis for decades and its eradication is a challenge.
Opposition leaders have been posting condolence messages since Friday while also demanding resignation of Chief Minister and Health Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

After visiting the Gorakhpur hospital along with other Congress leaders, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “It is a heart-wrenching incident. We are saddened by the deaths. This is all because of the state government’s carelessness. The CM should apologize to the country and he, along with the Health Minister, must resign.”
BahujanSamaj Party leaders also echoed similar views and demanded resignation of CM Adityanath and health minister Siddharth Nath Singh.
In a conversation with reporters Siddharth Nath Singh said that proper investigation will be done and assured that quick action will be taken. He also asked opposition parties to refrain from politicising a serious issue of deaths.
Uttar Pradesh medical education minister, Ashutosh Tandon said that the Chief Minister was keeping track of things and had asked him and the health minister to file a report to him after inspecting the hospital.
Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya took upon the opposition saying, opposition was giving statements in haste and that UP government was committed to service of people.
A few twitter users used sarcasm to criticize the government over the tragic incident. Have a look.
Looks PM's all twitter accounts have been hacked & that's why he is not able to tweet on #GorakhpurTragedy else our PM is very sensitive!— Arun Shourie [fαи] (@FeignShourie) August 12, 2017
