On Saturday (March 16) PM Modi started a new BJP campaign ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ by posting a video on Twitter. This campaign is launched to counter Congress’s ‘Chowkidar Chor hai’ jibe.
Re-defining the word ‘Chowkidar’ the PM said, everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt and social evils is a ‘chowkidar’ along with him.
Modi will reportedly interact with people from across the country on 31 March, as part of the campaign.
PM wrote on Twitter, Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar

Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and other members of Congress party often use the word ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ to attack Prime Minister over alleged corruption in the Rafale deal.
Rahul often use the slogan “Gali gali mein shor hai, Hindustan ka chowkidar chor hai (There is noise everywhere, the country’s guard is a thief),” against Modi in public rallies.
RSS affiliate Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh recently sought an apology from the Congress chief for “insulting all the security guards in the country”. They threatened to launch a nation-wide stir if the party did not stop using it.

“It has become a fashion to raise such derogatory slogans in poll meetings and the Congress should apologise to the watchmen in the country for their character assassination,” BMS general secretary Virjesh Upadhyay said.
BJP leader Piyush Goyal also took his Twitter account to promote the campaign ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’.
Piyush Goyal Twitter –
I am proud to join #MainBhiChowkidar movement. As a citizen who loves India, I shall do my best to defeat corruption, dirt, poverty & terrorism and help create a New India which is strong, secure & prosperous.

The 3 minute 45 second long video begins with the PM addressing the people saying, “Your chowkidar is absolutely alert”. The video then moves into a song with visuals of people from across the length and breadth of the country, singing “main bhi chowkidar hun” as part of the chorus of the song.
‘Mai Bhi Chowkidar’ has been started after extensive surveys and data analysis by BJP strategists who feel that Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ jibes and the campaign is not resonating among people. Surveys suggest that it is actually angering people.
This campaign will also further drive the narrative of PM’s strong and decisive image which multiple surveys have conveyed is the main factor in the upcoming elections.
