Panellists feel that BJP will do a fine balance in keeping its allies happy

The choice of the deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha has opened a platform for talks and consensus. A section of the press is saying that the candidature of JD-U’s first-time MP Harivansh will be the NDA’s choice.  APN’s popular debate Mudda discussed the issue. Anchorperson Anant Tyagi posed questions to panellists including BJP’s Anand Sahu, JD-U’s Krishnanand Mishra, SP’s Manoj Yadav, Congress’ Omkar Nath Singh, noted scribe Atul Chandra, and APN consultant Govind Pant Raju.

Sahu said: “No cracks in the NDA are likely on this issue. It will be decided amicably, and like in the past, we shall win. However, till nominations are filed, it’s not correct to take anyone’s name as final. If the Shiv Sena does not vote, the biggest loss will be theirs, because they are not going to be the game changers.”

Singh said: “The correct procedure is that when the government does not have a majority, the opposition should have been consulted.”

Manoj Yadav said: “Abki baar Modi sarkar is now abki bar chhote dilwalon ki sarkar. Allies have been leaving the BJP.”

Sahu said: “I have not said Harivansh’s candidature is final. The candidate will be decided mutually among the friendly parties. I am not sure if Harivansh’s name has been decided. The post of RS deputy chairman is crucial.”

Mishra said: ”It looks certain that the name of Harivansh is final, no need to doubt that. The BJP leader on the panel may not be aware.”

Sahu said: “This is a useless controversy. What’s more important to know is that the NDA candidate will win.”

Atul Chandra said: ”Amit Shah spoke to Nitish Kumar regarding Harivansh’s name. Why this name is becoming important is to secure the Bihar alliance. It’s like give-and-take. It does not seem that Shiv Sena will leave the BJP. Akali Dal, too, does not have the numbers to go in a different direction.”

Sahu said: “The most important thing is that the candidate should enjoy the backing of all. The Shiv Sena and the Akali Dal will be with BJP, and BJD, AIADMK and DMK will also be with us on this issue. If we count all, we already have the majority; Congress does not enjoy such comfort.”

Singh said: “The Congress is not putting up a candidate to fight, so leave the Congress out of this argument.”
