Panelists feel lawlessness has reached a new low with the latest Bulandshahr episode

A police officer was attacked and allegedly killed by a mob that surrounded policemen at a village in Bulandshahr in western Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh had reportedly tried to control mob violence that had started after rumours of cow slaughter spread in the area. APN’s popular debate Mudda took up the issue of lawlessness in UP. Anchorperson Anant posed the questions to panelists including BJP’s OP Mishra,  Congress’s Anuj Otre, SP’s Abdul Hafeez Gandhi,  former DGP KL Gupta, and APN consultant Govind Pant Raju.

Gandhi said: “It is a complete failure of the rule of law. Chief Minister Yogi is responsible for law and order, and he has to answer the people now.”

Gupta said: “Cow vigilantism has triggered a certain mob mentality that has been behind many riots in the state. These miscreants feel that they can get bail easily. The government is supporting lumpen elements. Such mobs lose the sense to understand law. The entire system is in disarray in UP.”

Raju said: “The state government and the CM are responsible for law and order. At the time of taking oath, Yogi had promised strict action against law breakers. It is clear that he has not been able to fulfil his responsibilities. That police lives are in danger show how much goonda raj has penetrated in the state. No one fears the government. Yogi had said illegal butcheries will not be allowed. Now why has the administration not been able to act in this so far?”

Mishra said: “Make no mistake, the CM has not been found wanting in his job. This episode is an example of mob attack. Investigations are on, and the culprits will be brought to book. I agree there is no justification for this episode.”

Otre said: “The CM had said he will finish jungle raj, but he has created goonda raj. Is this how the state is going to be run? It looks like the government itself was involved in some way. Innocent lives are lost in fake encounters, and now you see even the police is not safe. An officer on duty has been shamed like this. Why did his colleagues leave him?”

Gupta said: “If Inspector Singh’s colleagues had not fled, more people could have been killed. We have to stop this goonda raj.”

Mishra said:”Please don’t make it look like this episode is part of a narrative. I have never said that this is not a shameful episode.”

Gandhi said: “Why hasn’t any sarkari official reached the family of Inspector Singh?”

Mishra said: “The CM has sanctioned relief for the family. “

Raju said sarcastically: “Is this the promised Ram rajya? We often hear of sants coming in mobs to create tension…what is happening?”

Mishra said: “The BJP is not excusing the criminals. If someone takes the law into his own hands, we will be acting on that. It might be that the mob had assembled because their religious sentiments were hurt.”

To this, Anant said: “Why are you setting such a narrative that justifies this episode?”

Otre said: “The government must take responsibility for this heinous act.”

Mishra said:”There could be some technical glitches that delayed an FIR in this episode, and the date is wrongly mentioned, as pointed out by Raju on this forum. We need to verify the facts.”
