Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged Man of the Match for his impressive all-round show in the second Test against Sri Lanka

India’s left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja is arguably going through the most happening phase of his cricketing career. Amid the celebration of series win against Sri Lanka and the pride of winning the man of the match trophy, Jadeja was handed over one match suspension by the ICC on Sunday. Two days later, he has a reason to rejoice again.
As per the latest ICC rankings announced on Tuesday, Jadeja has edged out Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan to claim the top spot in the Test all-rounder rankings. Moreover, he continues to be the top ranked bowler in Test cricket.
Jadeja’sman of the match winning performance that included his knock of 70 not out and a seven-wicket haul during the second Test against Sri-Lanka, brought him the required points to dethrone Hasan and take his spot.
The all-rounder also gained nine places to reach 51st rank among the batsmen.
India batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are other top gainers in the latest ranking. Pujara’s 133-run knock in his 50th Test has helped him to a career-high 888 points and third position while Rahane has moved from 11th to fifth position with a score of 132.
However, the in-form Jadeja has lost a chance to consolidate his position in the rankings as he stands suspended for the final test against Sri Lanka. The punishment was awarded to him after he accumulated six demerit points within a 24-month period. Of the 6 demerit points, three were handed over to Jadeja during the Indore test against New Zealand in 2016 while the rest three were awarded during the 2nd test against Sri Lanka when he threw the ball towards the batsman in a “dangerous manner”.
At the other end of the spectrum, Jadeja’s limited overs performance has been lacklustre one for the last few years. The same is evident in the ODI rankings as Jadeja, once the top ranked bowler, now features in the 32nd spot.
