US withdraws from UN top court to avoid relaxing sanctions
As the US President Donald Trump’s deadline of imposing harsher sanctions against Iran in early November is approaching closer, war of nerves between the two countries is also reaching to its climax.
Iran’s top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says American sanctions are “more fragile than” Iran’s economy, and has emphasized that the Iranian nation will “slap the US in the face” by defeating those bans, once again.
According to Tehran based Press TV, Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks during a speech to a large gathering of Iran’s Basij volunteer forces and senior military officials at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran, with a capacity of 100,000 people.
He said, “We will defeat the sanctions, The defeat of sanctions will be America’s defeat, and the US, with this defeat, should once again be slapped in the face by the Iranian nation, God willing.”
The Iranian leader, who has influence in not only Iran but in the several other countries, said the Iranian nation has been blessed with “invincibility,” which is rooted in its 1979 Islamic Revolution, its eight-year imposed war by Saddam Hussein, the ex-Iraqi dictator, and its steadfast resistance over the past 40 years in the face of all enemy plots.
The US’s enmity towards the Iranian nation is not merely due to “Death to America” chants, Ayatollah Khamenei said. “They [the Americans] are afraid of Islamic power and the Revolution’s might.”
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, announced on Wednesday that US is terminating 1955 treaty with iran, after UN top court used that treaty to order US to ease some of its sanctions on Tehran.
On Wednesday, International Court of Justice ruled that US must lift sanctions that effect the import of humanitarian goods and products and services linked to safety of civil aviation. Iran had earlier alleged that the sanctions breached the 1955 bilateral agreement known as the Treaty of Amity.
In May this year, US President Donald Trump had announced America’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal known as JCPOA, that Washington brokered in 2015 with Tehran and five other powers- Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia.
He reportedly said, “The Iran deal is defective at its core. If we do nothing, we know exactly what will happen. In just a short period of time, the world’s leading state sponsor of terror will be on the cusp of acquiring the world’s most dangerous weapons. Therefore, I am announcing today that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.”
