CNN tops the list, NYT stands second
In an unprecedented move, US President Donald Trump has announced Fake News Awards to the journalists and media houses who were either critical of his administration or were aggressively covering White House since he occupied the top position in Washington.
Having tumultuous relationship with media, Trump released the list of recipients of Fake News Media Awards giving away four awards to CNN, two to New York Times and one each to ABC, The Time and Newsweek.
President Trump announced the awards through his official tweet.
The GOP blog announcing the fake news awards, linked to President Trump’s tweet, say “2017 was a year of unrelenting bias, unfair news coverage, and even downright fake news. Studies have shown that over 90% of media’s coverage of President Trump is negative.”
Four awards to CNN were announced for its different “false” reports which included of Donald Trump and his son Donald J. Trump Jr’s alleged access to the hacked documents from Wikileaks, much before it was actually made public and falsely editing a video to make it appear President Trump defiantly overfed fish during a visit with Japanese PM.
The other two awards for CNN were announced for falsely reporting Anthony Scaramucci’s meeting with a Russian (which was retracted due to significant breakdown in process) and false report that former FBI Director James Comey would dispute President Trump’s claim that he was told he is not under investigation.
New York Times received two Fake News Awards for its reporter Paul Krugman’s claim on President Trump’s historic landslide victory that economy will never recover under his administration, and its false claim of Trump administration hiding a climate report.
According the announcement, Washington Post is awarded for falsely reporting that the President’s massive sold-out-rally in Pensacola, Florida was empty. It is claimed that its dishonest reporter showed the picture of empty arena hours before crowd started pouring in.
Time magazine received the Fake News Award for falsely reporting that President Trump had removed a bust of Martin Luther King Jr from the Oval Office. The announcement further say that ABC News’s Brian Ross, CHOKES and sends markets in a downward spiral with false report.
President claimed that Newsweek had falsely reported that Polish First Lady Agata Komhauser-Duda did not shake President Trump’s hand.
The GOP website claimed that while the media spent 90% of the time focused on negative coverage of fake news, the President has been getting results. It claimed that nearly two million jobs were created and gained over $ 8 trillion in wealth since President’s inauguration on January 20, 2017.
White House listed ten items as President’s achievement that included claim about lowest unemployment among African Americans and Hispanics, historic tax cuts and relief for hardworking Americans and the ongoing Trump’s efforts to fulfill his election promises, especially Jerusalem’s recognition as Israel’s capital.
