A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped by four men, her own friends, who organized her birthday celebration at Chunabhatti in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
According to the Begumpura police officials, the girl arrived in Mumbai from Aurangabad on July 7. Four of her friends decided to organize her birthday celebration at home. After cutting the cake, all four raped her.
Meanwhile, she returned back home in Aurangabad and the victim did not disclose about the incident to anyone as she was in shock. Gradually, her health started deteriorating as she had stopped taking meals.
Following this, she was taken home in Aurangabad by her father, where she got admitted to a city-based hospital. The medical examinations revealed that she had been sexually assaulted. After which, she told her father about the incident who quickly lodged a complaint with Begumpura police and a case of gang rape was registered.
However, Begumpura police transferred the case to Chunabhatti police in Mumbai as the incident occurred in Mumbai.
“We have registered an FIR as the girl’s father approached us. However, since the crime took place under the jurisdiction of Mumbai Police, the matter has been transferred there,” Commissioner of Aurangabad City Police, C Prasad said.
Mumbai Police also said, “The incident happened on July 7 but the victim was so shocked that she did not tell anyone about it. But on July 25, when her condition became critical, then her family admitted her to the hospital in Aurangabad. During her medical examination doctors came to know about the sexual assault on the victim.”
Chunabhatti police has registered the case and the investigation is underway. No arrest has been made yet in this case, according to police reports.
