Both were arrested, during the anti-CAA protests on December 19, which turned violent in Lucknow. Vehicles were burnt, and over 200 people were detained following the clashes between the protesters and police. Sadaf was arrested while streaming the protests through a facebook live at Parivartan Chowk.
She, along with Darapuri were accused of rioting during the protests. Her bail plea was earlier rejected by a Lucknow court on December 24.
However, on January 4, the court granted bail, citing lack of evidence of violence against the two.
Before she was arrested, she had posted videos criticising the police for their alleged inaction during the protests.
Outrage against her arrest
There was massive outrage against the Uttar Pradesh government, following her arrest. Her family members had alleged that she was assaulted by the police while in custody.
She was picked up by Police while doing a harmless Facebook Live during a protest in Lucknow. She was then beaten and tortured in custody. She has been kept away from her children. In Modi 2.0 #NewIndia & UP if you complain about rioters , you are arrested, tortured and jailed.
But if you involved in lynching, you are garlanded and given a grand welcome.

Following her arrest, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the UP police for allegedly manhandling her. The Congress leader also visited Sadaf’s family in Lucknow on December 29.
https://t.co/ydS8uYuosM
