Woman dentist murdered in Agra, her children also attacked

A 38-year-old dentist was murdered in broad daylight on Friday at her home in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra by an employee of a local cable operator, according to reports. The incident happened in Kamla Nagar area of the city when the man, who had entered Dr Nisha Singhal’s house on the pretext of recharging the set top box, slit her throat while her kids were in another room.  The children, aged eight and four, have revealed that the suspect attacked them as well but they survived. Singhal was a private practitioner.

Dr Nisha Singhal’s husband, Dr Ajay Singhal, who is a surgeon was not present in the house at the time of the incident. Following the information, he rushed home and took his wife to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The police have identified the accused as Shubham Pathak with the help of CCTV footage and arrested him. According to the police, the man was trying to rob the house and conned his way by pretending to be cable TV technician. The police said he remained in the house for over an hour after attacking the doctor and her children. The police said that this was the second time in past two days that he had entered the house.

Meanwhile, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has expressed his shock over the incident. He hit out at the Yogi government for deteriorating law & order situation in the state. He tweeted that the state government should focus more on reducing the crime rate and less on advertising on television. He also said that the government was busy in defending corrupt officials while creating false cases against the opposition leaders.

Earlier in August, a 30-year-old doctor was found murdered in the city.
