All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader and spokesperson Waris Pathan sparked controversy by saying that 15 crore Muslims can prove to be heavy on the other 100 crore on Thursday.
“To those saying we have only put our women at the forefront – only the lionesses are out and you’re already sweating. Imagine what would happen if we all came together. We are 15 crore, but that can outweigh 100 crore, remember that,” he said during the anti-CAA protests.
#WATCH AIMIM leader Waris Pathan: …They tell us that we’ve kept our women in the front – only the lionesses have come out&you’re already sweating. You can understand what would happen if all of us come together. 15 cr hain magar 100 ke upar bhaari hain, ye yaad rakh lena.(15.2) pic.twitter.com/KO8kqHm6Kg

Pathan was referring to the criticism against women, who are on a sit-in for more than two months at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi.
BJP’s Karnataka unit hit out to the comment on Twitter saying such threats do not work in new India.
“Hiding behind children and women, legends are seeking “Azadi”. What more Azadi do they want? Aren’t they enjoying every kind of Azadi since 1947? Waris Pathan and other leaders of AIMIM should come out of their Aurangzeb’s World. These threats don’t work in #NewIndia,” it tweeted.

Waris Pathan has also refused to apologize for his remarks despite facing a backlash from political parties and leaders. In his statement, he said ‘it is BJP which is trying to segregate Indians.’
