Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and deputy CM Manish Sisodia won’t be joining US First Lady Melania Trump next week when she is likely to attend a “happiness class” at a Delhi government school, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources said.
Party sources alleged that the names of the two leaders were dropped from the event by the central government.
As per the earlier plan, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia were to be present to greet Melania Trump during her school visit.
First Lady Melania Trump, who will be India for a two-day trip, is all set to visit the classrooms of a Delhi government school on February 25.
Preparations are in full swing ahead of the high-profile visit, as the US First Lady will be visiting a Delhi government-run school for the first time.
“We have got a request from them (from the US embassy). We have told them that if they want to come, they are welcome. But I can’t tell you details about the school,” Manish Sisodia said after visiting a Delhi government school in his Assembly constituency of Patparganj.
The ‘Happiness class’ is a curriculum designed by Manish Sisodia as an attempt to reduce stress among school-going children. The curriculum involves 40 minutes of meditation, relaxing and outdoor activities. Melania Trump is expected to spend an hour at the school.
The visit will take place simultaneously when US President Donald Trump will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Donald Trump and Melania Trump are expected to land in Delhi on February 24, following which they will travel to Gujarat along with PM Modi.
Trump will arrive in Ahmedabad around noon on February 24 for a little less than 36-hour-long trip. From Ahmedabad, he will travel to Agra before coming back to the national capital for the main leg of the visit.
After his arrival in Ahmedabad, he will embark on a 22-km roadshow from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reach the Sabarmati Ashram.
He will spend about 25 minutes at the Ashram and will be taken to Hriday Kunj, the cottage that housed Mahatma Gandhi from 1918 to 1930.
From Ahmedabad, the Trumps will travel to Agra before coming back to the national capital for the main leg of the visit.
On the morning of February 25, Donald Trump and Melania Trump would be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
