Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday promised that he will provide free education to every child born in Punjab if his party, the Aam Aadmi Party, gets voted to power in Punjab.
He also said that if AAP forms government in Punjab then his government will give Rs 1 crore ex-gratia to Army, paramilitary martyrs.
The Delhi chief minister is currently on a visit to Punjab and he visited Punjab’s Pathankot along with Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, AAP MLA Raghav Chaddha and Punjab party leader Bhagwat Mann.
Kejriwal spoke on the improvement brought out by his government in Delhi, be it education, water supply or the free power available for people consuming less than 200 units. The Delhi CM said his government has also notched several firsts in community medicine with mohalla clinics.
In Punjab, he promised mohalla clinics in all the villages of the state, he said. Kejriwal mocked Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi for calling him kaala. “What if I am dark? Kaale hai toh kya hua dil waale hain,” echoing the famous Mehmood song.
The AAP is on a roll in its bid to wrest power in Punjab and has mounted a dedicated campaign for the state a few months ahead of the state’s legislative assembly election in 2022. Kejriwal has made four promises earlier, the sop of Rs 1 crore for martyrs is the fifth such promise.
In the 2017 polls, AAP had made a grand claim for power but ended up with 20 seats. The lessons learned in 2017 seem to be helping AAP since this time the party has put its national aspirations on hold, except for Punjab and Goa.
