A BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh who was defending his close aide after he shot a man dead in public has been asked for an explanation by the BJP Party Chief. Reports say BJP president JP Nadda has also warned the party’s UP chief Swatantra Dev Singh over the misconduct of BJP MLA Surendra Singh.
BJP MLA’s close aide and former army man Dhirendra Singh had allegedly shot a villager dead during a Panchayat meeting in the presence of police and other officials. The BJP issued a notice to the MLA after four days as he was staunchly defending the accused. Surendra Singh has openly defended the alleged killer and even claimed that Singh shot the villager in self defence. He has slammed the UP Police administration for a one sided inquiry.
The incident took place on Thursday where the altercation occurred between the two in a village meeting on the allotment of ration shops. Dhirendra Singh shot thrice at Jai Prakash, 46, and despite the presence of police and the officials, he successfully escaped the spot. He has been missing since the shooting and was arrested yesterday. Police caught him on the highway after he filed a request to surrender.
Reports say that BJP president JP Nadda called up the party’s UP chief and gave him a stern warning over the MLA’s behaviour. Nadda has ordered him to serve show cause notice to Surendra Singh. He has also warned him of action if there is any attempt to interfere in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the MLA has claimed that the alleged killer Dhirendra Singh heads a local BJP unit of ex-soldiers. Surendra Singh made a series of shocking statements after the incident. He said that he condemns the tragic incident but he also condemns the administration’s one sided inquiry in the case. He said such a casualty could happen anywhere.
