Brazilian President Jair Messias Bolsonaro, the chief guest at India’s 71st Republic Day celebrations, arrived in New Delhi today for a four-day state visit from January 24 to 27. This is his first visit to the country.

According to Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry Vijay Thakur Singh, the focus of the Brazilian president’s visit will be to re-energise the ties in a number of key sectors.
Eight ministers, 62 businessmen including 12 defence industry leaders will also be accompanying the Brazilian president for the visit. This is the biggest ever Brazilian business delegation to India.
It is likely that Brazil and India will be signing 15 agreements including in the fields of social security, bioenergy, cybersecurity, and health and medicine. Both parties are motivated to strengthen their strategic partnership which was signed in 2006 with focus on defence industry and robust partnership in the hydrocarbon sector.
Jair Bolsonaro will be the third Brazilian President to grace the R-Day celebrations after Fernando Henrique Cardoso in 1996 and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in 2004.
