Days before India vs Pakistan match at the T20 World Cup 2021, Union Minister Giriraj Singh urged BCCI to reconsider the match, in view of recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Rural and Panchayati Raj Minister said that cricket should not be played with Pakistan, as the relations between both countries are not good, and demanded to cancel the match.
In the past few days, there’s been a series of targeted killings of civilians, especially non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir. On Sunday, two migrant workers from Bihar were killed after terrorists gunned them down. While on Friday, a carpenter and a panipuri hawker, hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, were shot dead by terrorists.
While interacting with the media, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said that the match between India and Pakistan in the coming days needs to be given another thought in the wake of the attacks happening on Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir that the relations are not good with Pakistan.
Adding to this, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also urged BCCI to cancel the match and said, he has always said not to keep any type of relations with Pakistan that our people are being killed and you are talking about cricket? “Shiv Sena has been in the forefront of opposing Indo-Pak cricket matches amid strife – most notably when they dug up Mumbai’s Wankhede pitch in 1991, repeated the same in Delhi’s Ferozshah Kotla in 1999 and in UP’s Agra in 2003,” added Raut.
Meanwhile, Team India skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday played down the ‘hype’ surrounding high-voltage India vs Pakistan match as “another game of cricket” for him.
The blockbuster contest of India vs Pakistan is scheduled to be held on October 24 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pakistan is yet to defeat India in any World Cup matches, losing 12 (7 in ODIs & 5 in T20Is) times in a row.
