The court made the remark when it was hearing nearly 27 pleas filed against the Yogi Adityanath government which unleashed a hunt against illegal slaughterhouses.
The Allahabad High Court on Friday told the Uttar Pradesh government that it cannot deny any individual their rights to eat non-vegetarian food.
The court made the remark when it was hearing nearly 27 pleas filed against the Yogi Adityanath government, which had shut illegal slaughterhouses, in March this year.
The court asked the state government to issue new licenses for abattoirs and slaughterhouses and renew the old ones.
The court has also ordered the government to solve the problems over the non-veg food as soon as possible.
The order comes a day after the UP government told the HC that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cannot be tried for the 2007 Gorakhpur riots case in which he is an accused.
