Congress announces second, third list for Delhi polls; NSUI leader Rocky Tuseed to contest from Rajinder Nagar

The Congress released its third list of candidates on Tuesday for the Delhi Assembly elections. The party named five candidates including former Rajya Sabha member Parvez Hashmi from the Okhla constituency while former Congress MLA Mukesh Sharma was given the ticket from the Vikaspuri seat.

After initially announcing the names of 54 candidates in the first list, Congress declared the names of seven candidates on Monday. The second list includes former NSUI president Romesh Sabharwal, who will contest from New Delhi constituency and is pitted against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

For the Rajinder Nagar constituency, Congress has fielded former DUSU president Rocky Tuseed against Aam Aadmi Party’s Raghav Chadha and BJP’s Sardar RP Singh.

The seat is said to see a three cornered fight as RP Singh of BJP was a member of Delhi Assembly from the Rajinder Nagar constituency between 2013-15.

Rocky Tuseed, was a member Congress backed NSUI and won the president elections in 2017. He hails from the Todapur village, which in in the same constituency.

He was a student of Shivaji College and studied MA (Buddhist Studies). Fighting his first Aseembly elections, he will be up against AAP’s Raghav Chadha who contested in the Lok Sabha Elections from the South Delhi constituency.

Raghav is a young face of AAP and is a Chartered Accountant by qualification.

The Rajinder Nagar seat was won by Vijender Garg Vijay of AAP in 2015 and it will be interesting to see how the young candidates fare during the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections.

The BJP had won all the seven seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. However, since its resounding victory in the Lok Sabha elections, the party has been voted out of power in multiple state assembly elections.

In 2015 assembly elections, the AAP had won 67 of the 70 seats, while the BJP won just three.

The last date for filing nominations is January 21. The results will be declared on February 11, 2020.

APN tried reaching Rocky Tuseed but the calls went unanswered.
