Soon after Vijay Rupani’s resignation as the Gujarat Chief Minister on Saturday, the Congress, Gujarat’s major opposition party, alleged that the BJP has made Rupani a scapegoat to hide its mismanagement during the Covid pandemic in Gujarat.
BJP is hiding its failures by making Rupani a scapegoat, the Congress said.
Speaking with The Indian Express, the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Chavda said that the BJP government in Gujarat has been an abject failure on all fronts.
Chavda also said everyone knows that the BJP government in Gujarat is controlled from Delhi. Rupani, who has not been allowed to complete his full term, has resigned in the same way Anandiben Patel was asked to resign, he said.
The internal dispute within the Gujarat BJP was apparent since CR Patil was chosen as the Gujarat BJP president.
The government had failed in Covid management in Gujarat. Over 3 lakh people died in the first and second wave of Covid-19 and lakhs of youth are unemployed in the state and farmers are committing suicide.
On Rupani’s sudden exit, Gujarat Aam Aadmi Party general secretary Manoj Sorathiya said if the BJP has to change its Chief Minister then it shows its poor state after ruling for 27 years in Gujarat.
However, the AAP has been working extremely hard for the past 1.5 years in Gujarat and has worked hard and performed well in the recent local body polls.
The Aam Aadmi Party also took a jibe at PM Narendra Modi on Twitter, following Rupani’s resignation.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani submitted his resignation to Governor Acharya Devvrat. His resignation as the chief minister comes 15 months before Gujarat goes to assembly polls in December 2022.
Rupani became chief minister on August 7, 2016 after Anandiben Patel, who is now the Uttar Pradesh Governor.
