With one more case of coronavirus reported in Kerala on Sunday, the total number of positive cases in India has reached 42 so far, confirms Sanjeeva Kumar, Special Secretary (Health), Union Health Ministry.
The latest patient is a three-year-old child from Kerala with a recent travel history to Italy.
The child had traveled to Italy along with his parents and had returned last Saturday.
The family underwent thermal screening at the Kochi airport soon after they landed. The family was kept in quarantine at a hospital where the child developed the symptoms and eventually tested positive for the infection.
The child, who is under observation and is undergoing treatment at the hospital, is stable.

On Sunday, five people from the same family in Kerala tested positive for the virus.
Jammu and Kashmir also reported its first case of the deadly virus, when a 63-year-old woman tested positive for the virus.
In Delhi, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said,”Delhi has three positive cases and 1 suspected case of coronavirus. The first patient came in contact with 105 people, the 2nd patient came in contact with 168 people and third patient came in contact with 64 people. All these people have been quarantined, their samples taken.”
The Union government has put pre-call awareness messages on BSNL and Jio phone connections to educate people on preventive measures against the spread of coronavirus.
Globally, there have been more than 100,000 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus. At least 3,500 people have died so far — majority of them in the People’s Republic of China. The number of cases have also steadily increased in Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea.
