The Indian embassy in Beijing,China has cancelled its Republic Day Celebrations in view of the evolving situation due to the coronavirus outbreak in China. The Embassy announced this decision on its Twitter account this morning.

The Indian embassy  also launched two hotline numbers (+8618612083629 and +8618612083617) for those who have any queries regarding the virus outbreak.

An advisory was also issued by the embassy to travellers from China visiting India.

The World Health Organization has also termed this crisis a public health emergency of international concern. Over 25 people have been declared dead and 800 have been infected with the life-threatening virus globally.

The Consulate General of India in Jeddah clarified that an India nurse in Saudi Arabia who was reported to have contracted Coronavirus is not suffering from the the life-threatening virus that originated in China’s Wuhan city. However, the nurse is suffering from the Middle East Coronavirus, a viral respiratory illness that was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012.

V Muraleedharan, the Minister of State for External Affairs, on Twitter confirmed that 100 Indian nurses, mostly from Kerala have been tested and none except one nurse was found infected by Coronavirus.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, requesting him to communicate with Saudi Arabia authorities and to ensure proper treatment and protection for the patients.

The health ministry has screened over 9,150 passengers of 43 flights for the Coronavirus disease at seven airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Cochin.

China’s Ministry of Health has confirmed that it’s possible for the virus  to be contracted through human-to-human transmission. However, authorities have not been able to determine the origin of the virus.
