A Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped at gunpoint in the Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh. Two men including one former head of the village gang raped her at gunpoint in her residence, police reported on Sunday.
Superintendent of Police (Kanpur Dehat) Keshav Kumar Choudhary said the incident took place a week ago when the victim, 22 was alone at home. Victim’s parents filed a complaint that said the two accused barged into her house and raped her one by one at gunpoint. Before leaving, the accused threatened her of dire consequences if she dared to speak about the incident in front of anyone, the FIR said.
Chaudhary said that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of IPC and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. A SWAT team and three police teams headed by SHO Derapur, circle officer and additional SP have been formed to arrest the absconding accused, he added.

The rape incidents in Uttar Pradesh have been increasing day by day. This incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat district comes at a time when the nation is outraging over the gang-rape of a Dalit woman by four upper caste men in Hathras. The Hathras incident had triggered a huge public outcry and widespread protests across the country after alleged laxity of the Police administration .The UP Police had come under sharp criticism for forcibly cremating the victim in the dead of night against her family’s wishes while they were locked up in their home.
