Ahead of Delhi Assembly polls, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s grandson and AAP MLA Adarsh Shastri has joined the Congress.
He was welcomed into the party by senior party leader Subhash Chopra, who is also the President of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee and party spokesperson Mukesh Sharma.
A sitting MLA from Dwarka constituency, Shastri was upset with Aam Aadmi Party for not giving him a ticket for the 2020 Delhi Assembly polls.
Shastri had won the Dwarka seat with 59.08 per cent votes in 2015.
He was removed from the AAP list of candidates for 2020 Delhi Assembly polls and Vinay Kumar Mishra, a former Congress leader and son of former Congress MP Mahabal Mishra, has been given the chance to contest from the seat.
In 2015 assembly elections, the AAP had won 67 of the 70 seats, while the BJP won just three.
The last date for filing nominations is January 21.
The polling will take place on February 8 and the results will be declared on February 11, 2020.
