Dhanteras 2021: Know shubh muhurat and significance of this auspicious day

The festival of lights, Diwali is around the corner and this week-long festival begins with Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi. This festival is a major Hindu festival that falls on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik and it will be celebrated today on November 2 this year.

Dhanteras 2021 timings and shubh muhurat

The shubh muhurat on Dhanteras 2021 is between 6:17 pm to 8:11 pm. On Dhanteras people worship Lord Kuber, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord, Dhanvantri, and Lord Yamraj.

Dhanteras significance

There are many stories and beliefs associated with Dhanteras. One of the most popular stories is about a king’s son whose horoscope predicted that he will pass away on the fourth day of marriage after a snake bite.

However, his wife decided to protect her husband. She made sure he didn’t sleep that night and narrated stories to keep him awake. She also formed a protective boundary and kept all her ornaments and coins at the entrance of their hut.

It is said that when the God of Death Yamraj came in disguise as a snake, he was blinded by all the shiny jewellery and coins. The snake left in the place in the morning and spared the life of the prince.

Dhanteras beliefs on gold, silver, and gifts

On the occasion of Dhanteras, buying gold and silver is believed to bring Lord Kuber’s blessings in the house. It is also said that whatever you buy on this day become 13 times more due to the blessings of the Lord of wealth.

According to some beliefs, people are not advised to exchange gifts and wear black on auspicious occasions. It is believed that people who exchange gifts give away their good fortune. These beliefs and practices have been carried out for generations.
