In the Rahul and Bajaj conversation Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the world didn’t go through a lockdown even during the World War, as it has faced today due to the coronavirus pandemic. “The lockdown was really hard on the poor and migrants. They had nowhere to go,” said Rahul. “It’s a failed lockdown in India, it’s the only country where number of infections is increasing when lockdown is being eased,” Gandhi added.
The lockdown that India put in place around the last week of March was aimed at flattening the Covid curve. But the move ended up flattening a very different curve — the growth or GDP curve because of Draconian lockdown. Bajaj said in his conversation with Rahul Gandhi,
There were various forms of lockdown that we could have opted for. We chose a hard lockdown that was porous, because of which the virus situation here is still persisting,” is how Bajaj summed up the situation. This is Gandhi’s fourth interaction with who’s who of the business world as he tries to build a case against the central government led by Narendra Modi.
