Following the allegations of land grabbing, Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender has been divested off his portfolio. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will now handle the portfolio of Medical, Health and Family Welfare after the Governor approved his request.
Several farmers from Medak district had accused Eatala of encroaching on nearly 100 acres of lands on the outskirts of Achampet village in Masaipet Mandal to expand a hatchery owned by the health minister’s family. Soonafter, the chief minister had instructed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to get an inquiry done by the District Collector and get a comprehensive report on the same.
However, while the inquiry is still underway, the office of Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan issued an official statement saying that on the advice of the CM, the governor had approved the transfer of the Medical, Health and Family Welfare portfolio from Eatala Rajender to the CM with immediate effect.
Eatala, meanwhile, had denied the allegations and called it a pre-planned attack to assassinate his character and malign his image on the public. However, he welcomed the CM’s decision to order a probe. I also demand there should be a probe led by a sitting judge, he said.
Reacting to the allegation, his supporters also held a protest by blocking a national highway in Shamirpet. They had aso burnt effigies of MP Santosh, a relative of the Chief Minister, alleging it was a planned campaign to target Eatala.
Eatala was appointed as the health minister in 2019. He is the second health minister to be sacked unceremoniously by KCR at a time when the state is reporting a high number of Covid-19 cases. With this, preparations are in full swing to sack him from the cabinet as well.
Earlier, MLA T Rajaiah who served as the Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister was also sacked following allegations of corruption.
