World’s largest electric car manufacturer Tesla has made its entry in India.Tesla has set up its company, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited with its registered office in Bengaluru.
Elon Musk’s company has set up a research and development centre in Bengaluru. According to the documents accessed from the Registrar of Companies, Tesla will begin the operations of import, distribute, sell, service, maintain and repair electric vehicles and stationary energy storage and generation systems and equipment for now. Going forward, it might carry the business of sale, manufacture, export, service and promotion of electric vehicles among others.
As news broke out, the excitement among car enthusiasts and Tesla lovers was notable as the move would help in bolstering clean energy initiative, boost market and innovation in India. Soonafter #TeslaIndia began trending on Twitter.
However, being set up in Bengaluru, a city infamous for traffic, the Twitter users started a memefest, wondering if Elon Musk has seen the condition of Indian roads.
Worried about how Tesla’s electric cars would fare in Bengaluru traffic, one of the twitter users shared a funny meme with a caption, Elon Musk after seeing the condition of Indian roads.
While another user wondered if Tesla’s autopilot mode could make it through India’s bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Meanwhile, Tesla Motors India and Energy Private Limited was incorporated on January 8. Last year, Elon Musk had expressed his intent of starting operations in India and had confirmed that his company would enter the Indian market in 2021. The Indian unit has three directors on its board namely Vaibhav Taneja, David Jon Feinstein and Venkatrangam Sreeram.
