Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi vacated his official bungalow three days after his retirement, news agencies reported. Justice Gogoi, who gave the judgment in the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case, is probably the first judge to vacate bungalow in such a short span of time.
Justice SA Bobde has taken over as the new Chief Justice of India.
The CJI is given a month to vacate his official bungalow. Previously, ex-CJI JS Khehar had vacated the bungalow a week after his retirement.
On his last working day, he sat in the Supreme Court’s number one court for a few minutes, during which the lawyers’ body of the Supreme Court paid tribute to him.
In his farewell speech, Justice Gogoi had said: “During my time at the helm of our institution, I have witnessed how our Institution is fighting against all odds on all front and how each one of you at your respective stations has kept the hope of justice resolute amidst disorder and socio-economic upheaval.
