Former Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Trivedi, who resigned from Rajya Sabha in February, joined Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday. Trivedi joined BJP in presence of party president JP Nadda, Union minister Piyush Goyal and BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra at party headquarters in New Delhi. Trivedi, earlier on February 12, had announced his resignation from Rajya Sabha during a debate on the Budget in Parliament.
BJP national president JP Nadda welcoming Dinesh Trivedi to the party said that he always used to say that Trivedi was the right person in the wrong party but now he is in the right party. Trivedi will play an active role in West Bengal elections, Nadda added.
Dinesh Trivedi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI that Bengal has rejected TMC. They want progress, not corruption or violence. They are ready for real change. Politics isn’t khela, it’s serious. She (CM) forgot her ideals while playing.
After joining the BJP ahead of the West Bengal assembly polls, Trivedi said that this was the golden moment he had been waiting for. He further added that he was never interested in business and today he has joined Janta Parivar. There is massive corruption in Bengal under the current state government. Without naming TMC, Trivedi accused it of serving a family rather than the people at large. Trivedi said that he will be active in the election process irrespective of whether he will contest in the upcoming West Bengal assembly polls or not.
Dinesh Trivedi after announcing his resignation from the Rajya Sabha on February 12 said that he had been resigning from the Rajya Sabha because there was violence happening in West Bengal and he felt suffocated for not being able to do anything over violence in West Bengal.
Politics is heating up as the polling date comes closer. The state will go to polls in eight phases from March 27 to April 29, with results to be declared on May 2.
