Giriraj Singh tips hat to Sushil Modi: Posts don’t determine status

Hours after the BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad was named the new deputy chief minister of Bihar, Giriraj Singh, the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, on Sunday said nobody’s status is determined by the post the person holds. Singh was replying to BJP leader Sushil Modi’s tweet where he said the BJP and the Sangh Parivar had given him so much in his political career of 40 years but no one could take away his status as a RSS-BJP worker. BJP’s Renu Devi, the four-time MLA from Bettiah, will also be a Deputy CM with Prasad.

For those who can’t make the connection, Sushil Modi was the deputy CM in the outgoing government and has been deputy to incumbent Nitish Kumar earlier too. Sushil Modi was also in the race for Bihar Chief Minister after Kumar’s party, the Janata Dal (United), also a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, didn’t get the numbers to play Big Brother in the combine.

Responding further to Sushil Modi’s tweet, Singh said Sushil Modi will continue to remain the leader of BJP in the future as well. There is talk that Modi will be inducted into the Union Cabinet via the Rajya Sabha in place of the deceased Lok Janshakti Party founder Ram Vilas Paswan.

On Sunday, Tarkishore Prasad, the MLA from Katihar constituency, was elected the leader of the BJP legislature party. Earlier, the NDA in a meeting with BJPs senior leaders had decided to elect Nitish Kumar as the leader of the NDA in Bihar. With the announcement, Nitish is set to return as Bihar chief minister for the fourth consecutive term.

By winning 125 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly election 2020, the National Democratic Alliance of the BJP and the JDU secured a thin majority over the Mahagathbandhan of the Rashtritya Janata Dal, the Congress and the Left parties. The RJD has emerged as the largest party in the state with 76 seats and the BJP at 2, the JDU went down to 43 from 71 and is now third.
