Greta Thunberg Tookit row: 22-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi’s arrest sparks outrage

The police said that Ravi had shared the Toolkit with Swedish climate activist Great Thubnberg and collaborated with pro-Khalistani Poetic Justice Foundation to spread disaffection against the Indian state.

The arrest of 22-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi by the Delhi Police in connection with Toolkit tweeted by Great Thunberg has sparked widespread outrage. Several politicians, activists and academics across the country have demanded immediate release of Ravi. Congress leader P Chidambaram took to Twitter to condemn Ravi’s arrest. He said India is becoming the theatre of the absurd. Chidambaram tweeted – The Indian state must be standing on very shaky foundations if Disha Ravi, a 22 year old student of Mount Carmel college and a climate activist, has become a threat to the nation. In another tweet he said it was sad to see Delhi Police becoming a tool of the oppressors. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also demanded the release of Disha Ravi on Twitter.

Congress leader Kapil Sibal asked if the Indian state was so weak that a tweet could threaten its security? He asked if this was the change PM Modi wanted to bring in the nation.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of protesting farmer unions has also demanded Ravi’s release. It said in a statement that Ravi stood with farmers and should be released immediately. Ravi was arrested by Delhi Police’s cyber cell from her Bengaluru home on Saturday. The police said Disha was responsible for editing the Toolkit related to farmer’s protest and is the key conspirator in the document’s formulation & dissemination. The police claimed Ravi created the WhatsApp group and collaborated to make the Toolkit doc.
