Gujarat: BJP sends Narendra Tomar, Pralhad Joshi as key observers to decide Vijay Rupani successor today

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani resigned on Saturday and soon after submitting his resignation, the race for a new CM has started. In the latest development, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has sent Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Narendra Tomar as the key observer in Gujarat to choose the successor of Vijay Rupani on Sunday.

Narendra Tomar told news agency ANI that they have come to the state to hold further discussion over the next Chief Minister of Gujarat. He further said that they will hold discussions with the State President and other leaders.

On Saturday, Vijay Rupani submitted his resignation from the post of Gujarat CM to the governor and he said that he wishes to work in a party organisation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the guidance of the BJP chief.

According to reports the name of the key contenders who are likely to be the next CM of Gujarat are as follows- Nitin Patel, Mansukh Mnadaviya and Praful Khoda Patel. Mandaviya is currently the Union Health Minister and is also a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat.

On the other hand, Nitin Patel is the deputy chief minister of the state and he has several portfolios including finance, health and family, among others.

Meanwhile, Praful Khoda Patel who is also a name in the new CM race is currently the Administrator of Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haweli and Daman and Diu and Union Territory of Lakshadweep.

Vijay Rupani took oath as a CM on August 7, 20216 and he was Anandiben Patel successor, who is now the governor of Uttar Pradesh. Rupani handed over his resignation 15 months before the Gujarat polls. The Gujarat polls are scheduled to take place in December 2022 in which 182 members will be elected in the state.
