Rahul claimed that the jail authorities’ attitude towards Ram Rahim – a rape convict, is different compared to the other inmates.

In a rather shocking revelation on how rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is being treated in the Rohtak jail, a jail inmate – who is now out on bail – claimed that though jail authorities say that the self-proclaimed godman is in the same jail, no one is allowed to go near him.

Stating that the ‘baba’ is apparently enjoying his jail term, the prisoner named Rahul Jain told ANI, “There are a lot of restrictions now after Ram Rahim was brought in. The rest of the prisoners can’t move freely. None of us have ever seen him; we are just told he is lodged here.”

Rahul further claimed that the jail authorities’ attitude towards the rape convict is different compared to the other inmates and Ram Rahim also enjoys more benefits than others. He claimed that while other inmates are allowed to meet visitors for just 20 minutes, the visitors of the self-styled godman usually stay for at least two hours.

Though the court ruled 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for Ram Rahim, Rahul said that the 50-year-old Dera Sacha Sauda chief has no work in the jail. “We have never seen him work either. I don’t think he does any jail work,” said Rahul.

Also claiming that other prisoners are being deprived of basic necessities since Ram Rahim was brought to the Rohtak jail, Rahul said that the inmates also held a strike to protest against the unequal treatment – but the situation still remains same.

“Ever since Ram Rahim was admitted in jail, other prisoners are being deprived of basic necessities. Since he came, everyone is having a lot of problems. Earlier, we used to freely roam inside the campus, food was also good, but all that changed. Our basic necessities like clothes and shoes also stopped coming in. Our fellow prisoner, Ashok then approached the judge, who then pulled up the jail authorities. The supply gradually began after that,” said Rahul.

However, denying the reports of special treatment being provided to the rape convict, Haryana’s jail minister Krishnan Lal Pawar said, “He is not being given any VIP treatment and is living like any other inmate. There’s a lot of distance between barracks. The prisoners can’t even interact, so he’s saying just like that.”

Convicted of raping two women at the Dera Sach Sauda headquarters in Sirsa, ‘Baba’ Ram Rahim has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and is currently lodged at the District Jail at Sunaria near Rohtak in Haryana.
