Taking a 1-0 lead in the first game of three-matches One Day International series, Australia defeated India by 66 runs on Friday at Sydney cricket ground. Australia has decided to bat first after winning the toss in Sydney. Australian opener and Captain Aaron Finch with David Warner started the game very well.
Australian skipper Aaron Finch was on the crease till 39 overs of the game and scored 112 runs. Supporting his captain, the Australian middle order batsman Steve Smith has also scored a century in just 66 deliveries. At the end, Glenn Maxwell has added 45 runs in just 19 deliveries. David Warner had also contributed a half century for their team. With the help of two centuries and one half century, the Australian cricket team reached at an incredible total of 374 which was not easy to chase at Sydney ground.
Performing as the leading pacer for India, Mohammed Shami has taken three wickets by giving 59 runs while Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini and Yazuvendra Chahal dismissed one wicket each. Chasing a total of 375, India lost the wickets of Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer at the beginning. .Although, Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya tried their best to achieve the total but they failed to take India past the line. Dhawan scored 74 from 86 balls while Hardik Pandya scored 90 in just 76 deliveries. He hit 4 sixes and 7 fours in his inning, however, he missed a well-deserved hundred by 10 runs.
India finished their innings at 308 after 50 overs. Josh Hazlewood was on fire for Australia, registering three wickets while spinner Adam Zampa notched four dismissals.
It was India’s fourth straight loss in ODI cricket and sixth in international cricket as they have failed to snap the losing streak they picked up in New Zealand. It’s also the most-number of consecutive ODIs India have lost under the captaincy Virat Kohli.
