Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary of Chikmagalur Mohammed Anwar was stabbed to death by unidentified bike-borne assailants on Friday night in Gowri Kaluve area.
According to reports, Mohammad Anwar, 44, was stabbed many times by the attackers around 9.30 pm. He was stabbed in his chest and stomach. Later, he was taken to a local hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.
An Investigation is underway and police said they were probing the case from all possible angles but prima-facie it appears to be a matter of personal animosity. Police also said that Anwar had personal enemies for years.
The police have registered a case but none of the attackers have been identified so far.
Local party leaders described Anwar’s killing as part of a larger conspiracy. BJP MP Shoba Karandlaje has claimed that fundamentalists have killed Anwar.

BJP and RSS has been accusing ‘jehadis’ in Karnataka and Left parties in Kerala, West Bengal, and Karnataka of targeting and killing their workers and kin. During a rally in October last year, BJP president Amit Shah had accused Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan of the targeted killings.
“I want to ask CM Pinarayi Vijayan, who is responsible for killing 84 BJP /RSS workers in Kannur? If he is not answering, I am saying that he is responsible and the blood stains are on him only,” Shah had said last year in October ahead of the Janaraksha yatra in Kerala.
Recent ‘political killings’ in West Bengal also triggered a clash between the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
