China reciprocated by not participating border meeting

Continuing its adventurist attitude and spreading border tension with India, Chinese troops chose India’s Independence Day to clash with their Indian counterparts in the Pangong lake area in Ladakh. Beijing also decided not to participate in the traditional ceremonial border meeting on the auspicious occasion.

According to reports, amid the ongoing Doklam standoff in the Sikkim sector, this was the first time since 2005 that People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has declined to meet with their Indian counterparts. However India also did not participate in the similar ceremony on the Chinese side on August 1, the founding day of the PLA.

On Tuesday morning at about 7.30 am Indian and Chinese boat patrols clashed with each other at Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh near finger-6 part of the 135 km long lake. One third of the lake is under Indian control while rest is with China. Exchange of physical blows between soldiers of the two armies was reported. However no fire arms were used by either side. The Indian soldiers were seen scuffling with a Chinese soldier in the video footage broadcast.

Meanwhile at least 52 trucks belonging to PLA parked on the road built by the Chinese army were spotted on the side of the lake.  However, the trucks moved out in the evening.

The standoff in Ladakh comes in the backdrop of the ongoing tension between the two countries in Doklam, on the tri-junction of India-Bhutan-China border for almost eight weeks. It began with Indian troops stopping Chinese army from building a road in the disputed area. New Delhi has expressed concern over the road construction apprehending that it may facilitate Chinese troops to cut India’s access to its North Eastern states.

However, China claimed that they were constructing road in their territory and has been demanding pull out of Indian troops from the disputed Doklam plateau before resuming any dialogue.
