Congress demands SC monitored probe into children’s death
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has rejected the reports of disruption in oxygen supply as the reason for the death of 30 infants at Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, and promised that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
Addressing a press conference after conducting an inspection of the hospital on Sunday, Yogi said that a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of chief secretary to probe the tragic incident. He further blamed encephalitis as the root cause for children’s death at BRD Medical College.
“We have come to conclusion that a high level inquiry is needed to probe this issue. The PM is concerned and has extended help to state government as he has also sent a high level team of doctors from Delhi to look into the issue,” he said. Union Minister of Health JP Nadda is also here to take stock of the situation, he added.
“Our war is with encephalitis and for that soon after coming to power we have started vaccination on a large scale,” said Yogi.
At his briefing, Yogi also slammed Congress for politicizing a sensitive issue and said that the previous UPA government at the centre did not paid heed to the situation saying it was a state matter.
Congress, however, has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the death of children and alleged that that the Yogi government is simply trying to bury the truth through operation cover up.
Earlier, UP Health Minister Sidhharth Nath Singh said that the Principal of BRD Medical College has been suspended following the death of 30 infants within a span of 48 hours since August 10.
He was suspended for his irresponsible act of allegedly delaying payment to the supplier of oxygen cylinders, the minister added.
