Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari will swear in Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena chief and the next Chief Minister of the state, against the backdrop of the historic “Shivrajyabhishek” — the crowning of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj — and a huge image of the Maharashtra Legislature building at the historic Shivaji Park in Mumbai’s Dadar at 6.40 pm.
Around a thousand artists and designers worked tirelessly for 24 hours to ensure the “Shivrajyabhishek” set and a massive 8,000-square foot stage with a seating capacity of around 300 were completed by noon today.
Shiv Sena workers and supporters feel quite emotional about the Shivaji Park as party founder Bal Thackeray used to address his Dussehra rallies here, a tradition still kept alive by his son Uddhav Thackeray.
Over 40,000 chairs have been placed close to the stage for the guests, while arrangements have been made to accommodate about 3,00,000 party workers from the Sena, Nationalist Congress Party and Congress at the ground.
Over 2,000 police personnel, including Quick Response Teams, Riot Control Police, State Reserve Police Force, Local Armed Police and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, are present at the venue. Drones, CCTV cameras and dog squads are keeping a strict vigil. The Mumbai police have also imposed massive traffic restrictions ahead of heavy VVIP movement.
