Baby born over Arabian Sea
Can you imagine an International Airline welcome you on board to any of its flights worldwide free of cost all your life-time? Of course it seems impossible. But Jet Airways has announced free lifetime travel to a child born on-board while his mother was flying from Saudi Arabia to Kochi through its flight on Sunday.
A Kerala woman gave birth to a baby mid-air while flying at the height of 35,000 feet over Arabian Sea. A co-passenger Mini Wilson, a nurse by profession and the crew members helped women to deliver the baby.
The Jet Airways flight 9W 569 took off from Dammam, Saudi Arabia to Kochi at 2.55 am on Sunday. While airborne, the mother went into labor, the crew declared a medical emergency and flight was diverted to Mumbai, the nearest airport.
However, the women delivered the baby much before reaching the new destination. After landing at Mumbai airport both mother and the child were rushed to a hospital in “stable condition”. The Jet Airways, then resumed its journey to Kochi and reached 90 minutes behind schedule.
For being the first baby born in flight for Jet Airway, the airlines announced that the child would get a free lifetime pass for any travel on the carrier. For many, the baby is lucky enough to get this privilege.
Jet Airways is based in Mumbai. In March 2017, it was the second largest airline in the country after IndiGo with an 18 percent passenger market share. It flies to 45 domestic and 20 overseas destinations, especially to Middle East, Europe and Canada.
